Batumi International Airport was awarded name of Alexandre Kartveli

Today, on the first of September, by the decision of Batumi City Council, Batumi International Airport was awarded name of famous Georgian aircraft designer, one of the pioneer of the USA aircraft construction-Alexandre Kartveli (Kartvelishvili-1896-1974).
Alexandre Kartvelishvili studied in Paris Aviation School, worked in the company of French aviator- Louis Bleriot, participated in the creation of airplanes. In 1924 year one of his airplanes bet world record in speed. From 1927 year Kartvelishvili continued his career in New York, in famous aviation company (Republic Aviation Company).
He was vice-president of this company and main constructor. For the great merit in the field of aircraft construction and aeronautics Georgian engineer received national medal of the USA science. He was also elected as honored member of the USA Engineering Academy.  

To the implementation project of Batumi Municipality City Council about “Naming Batumi International Airport”; delegates supported by a solid vote. 
The whole world knows merit of this man and accordingly, respects him, so I think we should also appraise him- declared chairman of Batumi City Council. I think, it is great honor for us to give name of famous Georgian aircraft constructor-Alexandre Kartveli to Batumi International Airport.
By the said of the chairman of Batumi City Council, initiative of naming Batumi International Airport with the name of Alexandre Kartveli belongs to the Prime-Minister of Georgia-Irakli Garibashvili.
